I taught workshops throughout the United States and Canada and in my dreamy studio in Portland, Maine for 30 years. The coolest creative people traveled from all over the world to study with me giving me the best job imaginable. Just as I was winding down teaching on the road (needing more time home and less time schlepping 100 pounds of luggage) Covid hit and I closed my classroom until fall of 2021. I miss being with you all—the classroom is my happy place.
I spent the first months of Covid in a funk. Lost all sense of time, caught in loops of news, Facebook, Twitter, TV, mind numbing games, emailing and phone time while worrying about my peeps and the world and my business. I lost weeks waiting for Covid.
We may be in this for a while.
Here’s what I’m realizing: I have absolutely noooo control over most of what is happening. My life is easier, happier and more balanced when I have a creative outlet. So, I cranked up the tunes and carved an engagement ring for a very special couple—a labor of love–and got lost in it. Sweet relief!
I am carving wax and shooting videos for you all–while listening to favorite podcasts–and hours fly by. I’m drawing and carving a wild ring for a special client and I’m reminded of how right it feels to be caught up in this. I’m learning video editing and writing again–and that feels great.
It’s important to unplug and get lost in a creative process. Sweet relief.
Let this be your place to get lost, to be encouraged, to be empowered, to connect, to be inspired.
Unplug.
Get lost.
Because getting lost on purpose takes you to the place where magic happens.
